Commitment No. 2

Our fleet will be emission-free from 2030 on.

Transportation of tomorrow: e-vehicles, driven less
We perform a large part of our services at Griesser with our vehicle fleet: business trips, customer installations and repairs, material transports. The Griesser fleet of just under 400 vehicles – trucks, cars and service vans – consumes fuel and generates carbon dioxide emissions. How can we sustainably reduce these, we asked ourselves. The answer: by switching our entire vehicle fleet to climate-friendly electric power. And doing so by 2030.

The gains don’t end there. Electric vehicles have a shorter range and limited charging capacities. So we had to optimize the logistics of our materials transports, too. Which has had the additional beneficial effect of reducing the total kilometers per year driven by our fleet by some 30 %. That means annual savings of 45,000 tonnes of fuel. And that translates into a 120-tonne reduction in our annual carbon dioxide emissions.

Our pioneering spirit drives us on
For one full year we also participated in Switzerland’s ‘V2X Suisse’ pilot project which was designed to study how electric cars could also be used to store electricity, to cover power grid peaks and improve overall grid stability. To this end, a Honda model ‘e’ car was used at our Aadorf head office as a bidirectionally charging electric vehicle. The car, which was supplied by Switzerland’s Mobility car-sharing scheme, could not only draw electricity to power itself: it could also put electricity back into the power grid. The model project – the biggest practical trial of its kind in Switzerland – was successfully concluded. This forward-looking technology to stabilize the power grid fits perfectly with Griesser’s sustainability endeavors and its pioneering pedigree. And with the project successfully concluded, the concept will now be further extended to our company’s vehicle fleet.
